Noi am fost in Maramures in primavara anului 2018 si am petrecut aici cateva zile superbe.

I finally managed to write this article that a lot of you have asked for, about our trip to Maramures. I’ve had much time and inspiration since I’m spending more time at home because of Coronavirus.
We went to Maramures during the spring of 2018 and spent here a few wonderful days.
You should know that this trip wouldn’t have been possible without having a car, I don’t have information about public transportation.
Cazare/ Accommodation:

RO:
Tanti Lenuta si sotul dansei locuiesc in aceeasi curte si ofera cazare in 4 camere intr-o casuta autentic maremuresana din gradina lor.

We made some research and decided to stay in Breb because we wanted our accommodation to be in an authentic rural place.
Breb is a small village, with approximately 1000 people, with authentic homes with big traditional wood gates, with simple and beautiful people who all know each other and beautiful landscapes.
We stayed at Breb418 at the Opris family. Mrs. Lenuta and his husband live in the same yard and offer for accommodation 4 rooms in an authentic Maramuresan house. Also, for an extra cost, Mrs. Lenuta can cook for you delicious food with fresh local ingredients. You should try her pies! It’s a pleasure to sit at the table with these people!
Also, they were so kind that they borrowed us their traditional clothes and Mrs. Lenuta took us some pictures like a real pro! :)) (we told her how we would want the pictures but we weren’t expecting them to be this great!)
We spent here 2 nights. The program was like this: wake up early and have breakfast prepared by Mrs. Lenuta, then go sightseeing and come back at night, eat dinner and spend a couple of hours with the Opris family.

De vizitat in zona/ what to visit in Maramures:
1. Manastirea Barsana/ Barsana Monastery – Barsana
RO:
EN:
You should definitely go visit this Monastery! It’s such a beautiful, quiet place, with a big garden full of flowers which charged us with such positive energy! You can easily spend here a couple of hours.

2. Cimitirul Vesel/ Merry Cemetery – Sapanta
RO:
EN:
This is one of the most famous places in Maramures, it’s called merry because of the funny messages written on the crosses about the life of the people who died. It’s not that funny because it’s still a cemetery, but I think it’s unique and beautiful.

3. Muzeul Florean/ Florean Museum – Targul Lapus
RO:
EN:
On our way to Breb we found a street sign with the museum’s name written on it and because we are really curious we decided to go for it. Take care on the road because it goes through a forest and can be a little difficult, but when you’ll arrive you will see it was worthy because I bet you haven’t seen anything like this before. It’s a huge plain with sculptures everywhere where I understood sculpture camps are organized. I think not a lot of people know about it because it was just me and my boyfriend there, on a beautiful sunny day.

4. Muzeul Satului Maramuresan/ Maramures Village Museum – Sighetul Marmatiei
RO:
EN:
Another museum you should visit is this one with traditional wood houses from 17th and 18th centuries. It’s interesting to see how people used to live some time ago, and it’s really relaxing to walk on the alleys, it feels like you’re in an actual village.

5. Memorialul Durerii/ Memorial Museum – Sighetul Marmatiei
RO:
Memorialul victimelor comunismului, amenajat intr-o fosta inchisoare, este foarte mare si gazduieste multe expozitii, oferind foarte multe informatii din perioada comunista.
EN:
It’s a memorial of the victims of the communism, set up in a former jail. It’s big and hosts a lot of expositions, offering a lot of information about the communist times.

EN:
We wanted to ride with Mocanita really bad, but we were close to miss it because it was leaving early in the morning and our ride from the accomodation took us more time then we expected. So, I advise you to arrive early to buy tickets and take with you some thick clothes because it’s a bit cold. The landscapes are beautiful and you feel like you travel back in time! The ride takes about 6 hours, but time flies!

7. Cascada Cailor/ Horses Waterfall – Borsa
RO:
EN:
This attraction is a little far comparing to the others, but you should not miss it! It’s 1 hour and a half car ride from the Mocanita, so you should go here after.
To arrive at the waterfall you have to take the chairlift then walk for 30 minutes in the woods. I haven’t seen all the waterfalls in Romania, but I’m sure this is one of the most spectacular.
The name comes from a legend: a herd of horses, threatened by a bear, jumped in the abyss and died, and the waterfall formed from the locals’ tears crying for their animals.
You will see snow in the pictures, because up on the mountain was a lot of snow, which took us by surprise, so you should wear boots if you want to go to the waterfall.

RO:
