Hunedoara county – what to visit in 2 days

    by Yasmine December 8, 2020
    written by Yasmine

EN: During the 1st of December holiday, we decided to visit Hunedoara county for the first time. We stayed in Deva and from here we went sightseeing around. We only had 2 days for this roadtrip, but there are certainly a lot of other great places to visit in Hunedoara!

RO: Cu ocazia minivacantei de 1 decembrie, am ales sa vizitam pentru prima data judetul Hunedoara. Am stat in Deva, de unde am pornit spre toate obectivele mentionate mai jos. Noi am avut doar 2 zile disponibile pentru aceasta calatorie in judetul Hunedoara, dar cu siguranta sunt mult mai multe locuri minunate de vizitat in aceasta zona!

    Corvin’s castle/ Castelul Corvinilor

    EN:

The castle was the main reason of our trip to Hunedoara county. We’d heard of it, we had seen a lot of pictures of it, but somehow we never managed to see it. It looks like a fairytale castle! It is very well preserved, and it is really photogenic! Don’t miss it if you are around.

    RO:

Nu trebuie ratat daca sunteti in zona!

The fortress of Deva/ Cetatea Devei

    EN:

You can’t miss the Fortress of Deva if you are in Deva. It’s really imposing and it is located on a hill at a height over 180m. The fortress is really well preserved and as a bonus, from here you have a great view over the city! Unfortunately the funicular wasn’t working so you have to take the car and then climb or climb all the way up.

    RO:

    Sarmisegetuza Regia

    EN:

Wow, what a place! When you first enter the area, you come across some beautiful secular trees, and before reaching the ruins of the ancient temples, the landscape is amazing. Here was the capital of the Dacian state before the wars with the Roman Empire.

    RO:

    Sarmisegetuza Ulpia Traiana

    EN:

Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica Sarmizegetusa was the capital and the largest city of Roman Dacia, later named Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa after the former Dacian capital, located some 40 km away. Personally, I loved Sarmisegetusa Regia more, I guess more because of the surroundings.

    RO:

Pe numele intreg, Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica Sarmizegetusa, aici s-a aflat capitala provinciei romane Dacia.

    Roman Baths / Termele Romane – Geoagiu-Bai

    EN:

Another great place with historical value, more than 2000 years old can be found in Geoagiu-Bai. It was called Germisara, a name of Dacian origin, meaning “hot water” (germi = heat, sara = waterfall), which proves the fact that the dacians knew the benefits of the thermal springs. Later, when the romans took over the place, they transformed it in a luxurious spa center, as the archeological proofs show. The place was beautiful, and judging by the number of people who were visiting it when we went (two), it is not so popular, making it more charming!

    RO:

Clocota Waterfall/ Cascada Clocota -Geoagiu Bai

    EN:

Not far from from the roman baths you can find this waterfall which is impressive not by its spread, but by its water temperature. Because it is a thermal waterfall, it never freezes, and when we saw it, during winter, the steam was spectacular.

    RO:
